Q & A

When Was The Last Time You Were A Fashion Don't?!

Mr. Husband, and my oldest daughter have deemed themselves the "Fashion Police," of the Richardson household. Frequently Baby-girl adds her two cents. Most often the subject of their disapproval is... Moi.

In October, I had this great idea to wear something pink every day leading up to the Susan G. Komen 'Race For The Cure.' As the days went on, it became more difficult to find something pink to wear, and make it work.

One particular day, I wore a blue dress, with a pink scarf. I must admit, I thought I was rather cute. That was until I picked Baby-girl up from school. I didn't get the usual "Hey Mama." Instead, I got a real concerned look and, "Did you wear that to work.all.day?"

I gave her a stern "YES, and there is nothing wrong with what I'm wearing!"

As soon as the two middle daughters hit the door, Baby-girl chimed, "Look what Mama wore, aaaaall day today."

When was the last time you were a 'Fashion Don't,' whether you knew it or not?

I'm in the middle of a fashion don't right now! Even though this is homecoming week at my school and we are celebrating Tacky day, I feel like a complete idiot. I have 3 big ugly hair bows in my hair a red and black shirt on with an orange skirt and 1 ankle boot with one thigh high boot. I feel crazy. I can't wait to go home and change clothes.

I was a teacher and the comments I would regularly be interrogated by the Junior Fashion Police, made up of mouthy 8-year-olds!
I wrote about it a while back:

My entire life is a fashion don't. I admire you for trying to make pink work every day, though. That's commendable! Um, but are you still doing it?

If you can believe this, there are folks out there who actually think my Converse low tops are a don't. Not all the time but some of the time.

To that I say, "Step off, sistah."

Now onto my own fashion don'ts. Yeah, I wear a lot of exercise pants, some with lines down the side and some that are solid black or navy.

They're very comfy but I'm sure I'm not presenting my best self. Clearly I am living with this since I haven't changed my MO.

There was one time 18 or so years ago that I attended a very conservative Protestant, I think?, wedding where all of the women wore long-sleeved dresses that went down to mid-calf.

My husband did not mention that most of the chicks in the house were going to be super conservative. It was winter and I wore a navy blue velvet dress that was sleeveless but went up to my neck just above the collar bones. The hem hit just above my knees.

And I am not exaggerating when I say I heard at least three different people whisper at different times, "That's the dress..."

That was uncomfortable. But I still thought the dress was cute.

Cafe Chick - We know it's getting bad with 8-year-olds THINK they are fashion forward!

Justice Fergie - You sound very comfortable! I know a lady who's always dressed up, and made up, and is always in season. That's way more work than I have time for!

Kathy - No, I'm not still wearing pink everyday. That was about 14 days or so leading up to the race.

Cardio Girl - Say it isn't so... surely no one thinks the high tops are a don't! I wonder how many women at that wedding wished they had the guts to wear 'that dress?'

My daughter and I end up being the fashion police too. I think of it as offering a service to everyone in our household.

HILARIOUS!!!!! I LOVE THIS :)

Well, I am working on a post right now about not realizing there was baby dribble on my shoulder. It was too late to turn around to change. Ugh. :(
