The Help - The Book

Since the very first preview I saw of "The Help," I knew I had to see this movie. But I have this thing with movies that are adapted from books... I like to read them first.

Last week, I completed the novel, after carrying it around and reading it every chance I got for 6 days. I'm adding it to my favorites list behind "The Color Purple," and "Their Eyes Were Watching God," and "Home Is Where The Heart Is."

I love how Kathryn Stockett wrote each chapter in that particular character's voice, allowing me to connect them individually.

Now, I can hardly wait for a break in our schedules, so I can go see the movie. I want to hear Aibileen tell Mae Mobley how good and special she is, as well as hear Hilly scream when she finds out what was in that pie!  I can't decide if Aibileen or Minny is my favorite, but I know for sure Hilly is my least favorite character.

Have you read the book, or seen the movie yet? What did you think about either? Who are you favorite characters? Don't worry, I don't mind you telling.

I also can't decide between Aibileen and Minny for my favorites. Both were so great in different ways.

I hope you'll post again when you see the movie. There were parts of the book I liked better, parts of the movie I liked better... but overall, both were fantastic!!

I loved the book AND the movie! I read the book about two years ago. I think around the time of the big Hilly scene in the book, I was at the gym. I stayed so long on the bike that my butt hurt when I left. I kept adding 30 minutes. That was a good workout! I was so excited when I found out that it was going to be on screen. I am glad it is doing well so far. The cast was fantastic. On screen Minny was my favorite character. I also loved the dingy housewife (can't think of her name). Whoever wrote the screen play did an excellent job. Please do repost once you've seen it.
