One Monkey Won't Stop A Race... But A Migraine Will!

April 2nd, was the big 10K, the Capital City Classic I had been blogging, Tweeting and Cinchcasting about. I logged some serious miles walking and running, preparing for the race. Some days my feet ached so very badly, but I had something to prove. I pushed on.

Friday, evening the day before the race I had a headache, took something, and went on to my daughter's softball game. After no relief, that night I took something else for my growing pain.

About 3:30 a.m. that same headache woke me from my sleep. This time I took Alieve, and went back to sleep praying it would do the trick. Mr. Husband warned, I might not make the race. Bah hum-bug, sure I would.

At 6 a.m. when my alarm rang, I thought I was okay. It was race day, and I was going to handle.my.business.

A few steps out of the bed, I realized... This ain't no ordinary headache. It was a full blown migraine. Hindsight, I realized it actually started Thursday, and not Friday. Mr. Husband was right, there was NO WAY I would be able to walk, run, or crawl in that race. Disappointed, I took a migraine prescription, and went back to bed.

Now I'm faced with what to do... I still have something to prove, and right now, any 10K will do! I'm working on putting together my own 10K, nothing big, I might even invite a few people to join me. But if not, I'm walking, running or crawling a 10K soon. I'll keep you informed!

I think you made the smart decision in not running... I understand how disappointing it would be. I was supposed to go on a mission trip to Jamaica last month, but got sidelined by the flu. When I realized I would be more of a hindrance than a help on the trip, I had to back out. But - I WILL go to Jamaica this year! And you WILL run your 10K! Keep up your training - it's not for naught!

How frustrating. MIgraines have the uncanny ability to show up at the worst times. Must be hard to train so much and then not be able to run. I hope you have the opportunity to run another one soon--without a migraine!

Oh, suck. But guess what? I ran that capital classic 10k, so I know the route! You let me know when you want to run it, and you can come on up and do the real thing! I'll run it with you!
